Studo Browser Information

Overview

I have seen "Studo" in my user-agent logs. What is it?

The Studo App is a browser that is very frequently used by students (especially in Germany and Austria; browser market share up to 70% depending on the university). It is optimized for mobile and simplified access to university management systems. Students can call up websites of one or more universities in the Studo App and use other university-independent services. These include, for example, importing external iCal feeds (Outlook, Gmail, iCloud, ...) into the integrated native calendar or calling up lunch menus near the university.

The mission of our company is offer reliable digital services for students and universities. We also enter into close contractual relationships or cooperation agreements with many universities and are available to them as a long-term digitization partner. At selected universities, for example, we also offer Studo for employees and lecturers so that they can also map and organize their everyday life at the university on the move. Another digitization project is the workload assessment. With this module, students can evaluate the ECTS weighting of courses and increase the quality of the curriculum through uncomplicated continuous recording of their workload during the semester. This process was previously performed in analog form and was converted into a digital format by Studo. For more information, please visit studo.com.

How does Studo work? What about data protection and data security?

Students can use the app to access important websites of their universities. How does it work? Studo is a browser and mail client the same as Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Apple Mail, Samsung Mail & Co., only the display of some content is optimized for mobile devices. The websites of the supported universities are partially simplified and optimized for mobile devices, and students' mails can be read and answered on mobile devices. Of course, the students' personal access data will be sent exclusively to the university's servers, and there will be no processing or storage of the students' personal access data outside the area locally encrypted in the app and protected by the operating system. The technical implementation of the local storage of the access data is therefore equivalent to other common apps such as Apple Mail or Samsung Mail App. The access data for the student account are therefore not sent to servers of Studo - thus the students do not forward their access data to third parties. Read more about the security of the Studo App.

What is the Studo business model?

Students have the opportunity to purchase a so-called PRO version of the Studo App. With this version, for example, 40 weeks instead of 2 weeks can be displayed in the iCal calendar, user-defined colors can be set for each appointment or favorites can be set in the cafeteria overview.

Studo also works intensively with universities, for example to make the PRO version available free of charge and to implement digitization projects together with universities. For more information, visit studo.com.

I would also like to enter into a cooperation with Studo or would like to learn more about the app.

Please note that there is not necessarily a cooperation between Studo and your university. Studo is an independent third party provider as a mail client and web browser. Are you interested in a cooperation, would you also like to become a cooperation partner or do you have any questions about how the Studo App works? Please contact us directly.

I am in the IT team of a university and suspect that my system needs optimization in the context of the Studo browser.

As an independent third party provider of a browser app optimized for university websites, we have been in contact with many IT or ZID teams of universities, technical colleges and other tertiary educational institutions in German-speaking countries for several years. This exchange has already resulted in performance optimizations and improvements such as the integration of additional services (e.g. Moodle systems for selected fields of study) for individual universities - after contacting the Studo team, usually within a few hours.

In addition, we offer all universities as browser providers an exclusive service for situations with an enormous user load of the university servers: Within a few minutes, the number of calls from the Studo browser, which may be used very often, to your university servers can be reduced to an absolute minimum. This means that students do not receive any current events on their university calendar, but can still see the events cached locally in the Studo App. Users whose cache is currently empty (e.g. because they are currently logging in to the Studo app) can then access the university server once and then view their data exclusively via the local cache in the app. This temporary deactivation of synchronization can be activated within a very short time by contacting partner-support@studo.comPlease contact us via this e-mail address, it will be treated with top priority by the Studo team - even on Sundays and holidays. Thus, the service of your university management system and of Studo can be maintained without any perceived disruption - this is an absolute concern of the entire Studo team.

In order to facilitate easy communication between the IT/ZID team of the university and Studo, the user agent of the mobile browser module on which the Studo app is based has been supplemented by the version of the Studo app and the operating system used (Android or iOS). We hope this will enable you, as a university employee, to easily evaluate your log files and statistics.

Furthermore, we offer you fast and uncomplicated individual solutions to solve any technical problems quickly, to improve performance in the long term or to inform students of the university about necessary actions (e.g. by means of a news item placed in the Studo App). Please contact us at partner-support@studo.com - we are committed to providing the best possible service and support for universities. If you contact us, we will get back to you as soon as possible by e-mail or phone.

I am a user of the Studo App and have a technical problem.
