Give every student an ID European countries recognise

The European Student Card is the digital credential at the heart of Erasmus+ mobility. It makes student status verifiable across borders.

Join the European Student Card Initiative

The European Student Card Initiative is the European Commission's programme to make student status digitally verifiable across Europe. At its centre is the European Student Identifier, verified in real time via the ESC Router, the EU's central verification system. Joining connects your institution to a pan-European network and simplifies the processing of incoming and outgoing students.

Go live without the technical overhead

For institutions ready to move fast, we handle the full setup, from integration and ESC Router to ESI generation and wallet passes. Most go live within weeks. Prefer to build in-house? The core library is available as open source.

Issue credentials students carry everywhere

The ESC is available as a pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or fully integrated into your Digital ID Card. In the app version, students access their European Student Card alongside their campus ID, library card, transport ticket, and payment, all with a single swipe.

Ensure trusted student credentials at every touchpoint

The card uses gyroscope-based hologram verification, a screenshot lock, and cryptographic QR code verification. When a student's enrolment ends, the card is deactivated automatically, no manual process required. The card also works offline, so students can present it without a network connection at any point of use.

What is the European Student Card?

The European Student Card (ESC) is an EU-wide digital credential issued by participating higher education institutions. It enables students to be verified in real time across all member institutions using a unique European Student Identifier. The initiative is run by the European Commission as part of the Erasmus+ programme.

What is the European Student Identifier?

The European Student Identifier (ESI) is a unique identification number assigned to each enrolled student at a participating institution. It is verified in real time through the ESC Router, a centralised platform managed by the European Commission. The ESI is the technical core of the European Student Card.

Does the ESC work alongside our existing digital student ID?

Yes. The European Student Card can be integrated into an existing Digital ID Card setup, and students access both IDs through the same app with a single swipe. It can also be deployed as a standalone ID if your institution has not yet implemented a digital campus ID.

Can students add the ESC to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

Yes. Students can add the credential directly to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The card displays their name, student number, validity, and issuing institution. It is available offline, so a network connection is not required at the point of use.

What happens when a student's enrolment ends or expires?

The card is deactivated automatically, based on the enrolment status pulled from your campus management system. No manual process is required from your administration team.
